INFOFISH press release.
The biggest global event on the tuna calendar, INFOFISH TUNA 2018, will take place from 28-30 May 2018 in the “tuna capital”, Bangkok, where world leading tuna players will converge to confer on major issues in the industry. Against the backdrop of sustainability and traceability, the Conference programme has been carefully designed to address topical issues, namely fluctuating tuna prices; poor tuna landings; the growing need to ensure sustainability of resources and eco-labelling for tuna products; fishery improvement programmes; the growth of technology to combat IUU fishing; innovations in industry; pole & line and FAD management; labour and ‘decent work’ standards; climate change; market access, etc. This year’s event will also feature a panel discussing the trends and challenges involved in certification.
Themed “Braving Challenges: Towards a Traceable and Sustainable Tuna Industry”, the upcoming TUNA 2018 will be the 15th World Tuna Trade Conference and Exhibition organized by INFOFISH and our partners. As in the past, response from the industry has been overwhelming. This year’s event will bring together more than 30 internationally renowned industry leaders, policy makers and planners, regional fisheries management organizations (RFMOs) as well as influential NGOs who will take the stage to share their views on this vital fisheries sector. In addition, more than 650 delegates from nearly 70 countries worldwide are expected to attend the three-day event which is undoubtedly the largest global tuna industry meet to be held at the prestigious Shangri-La Bangkok.
We are pleased to announce that the Chairperson of the Conference this year is Dr Transform Aqorau, the former CEO of the Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA). Since stepping aside in July 2016 as CEO of the PNA Office, Dr Aqorau took on a supporting and mentoring role as Legal and Technical Support Adviser for a period of 10 months. He is also on the Board of the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF). Joining him as co-chair will be Dr Chanintr Chalisarapong, Chairman of the Thai Processors’ Group (TFPA).
Since the first INFOFISH Tuna Conference held in 1986, the event has remained the only platform for global tuna industry players to stay ahead on trends and developments in the industry while deliberating on current issues related to management, sustainability, marketing, quality and technological developments. Don’t miss out on this valuable opportunity to register for the Conference. The early bird registration ends 23 April 2018!
An Exhibition featuring the latest tuna products, services and technology development will also be held at the Conference venue. Only a few more booths are available! Why not take this opportunity to promote your business by being a sponsor? Attractive plans are available to suit your requirements.
